Float Switches for Level Detection
Functions of float switches: What is a float switch?
With a float switch, also known as a level switch, specific limit levels of liquids can be reliably monitored and controlled. The sensors are based on proven reed technology and are characterized by their durability. With over 30 years of experience in development and manufacturing, we provide field-tested products for a wide range of applications.
Float switches are typically used for overfill and empty detection, as well as for alarm signaling and pump control, and are suitable for use in liquid media. For applications in explosive atmospheres, float switches are also available in EX versions (ATEX).
Product overview

How does a float switch work?
Our float switches are based on the tried-and-tested Reed contact-magnet principle, which guarantees reliable and long-lasting functionality. The only moveable component within the sensor is the float itself, which rises and falls together with the level of the medium. If the fluid reaches a defined limit level, the magnet within the float activates the Reed contact inside the sliding tube. The contact switching tongue closes and allows the current to flow.
Modular design for maximum flexibility
Thanks to their modular construction, our float switches can be precisely adapted to specific applications. Length, number of switching points (up to six), float dimensions, and connection types can be selected individually. The sensors are available in various materials such as PVC, PP, PVDF, stainless steel, or Buna, covering a wide range of applications – even in aggressive media or explosive environments. Installation is possible from the inside, outside, or in reverse direction, ensuring optimal integration even in confined spaces.
Variants and technical specifications
Our float switches are available in various designs and technical configurations. They can be flexibly adapted to different application requirements – in terms of size, material, and connection type, as well as electrical and mechanical parameters:
Standard and mini float switches
Our float switches are available in two basic versions: as individually configurable standard models and as compact mini float switches. The latter is particularly suitable for applications with severely limited installation space and is available as a standard version directly from stock. While standard models offer up to six switching points, the mini switch is designed for a single switching point. Both variants are mechanically robust, resistant to chemicals, and – depending on the version – designed for temperatures up to 200°C.
Mechanical and electrical features: Float switches with 25V, 50V, 230V
For mechanical connection, numerous thread options are available, including G1/8″, G1/4″, G3/8″, G1/2″, flange or adjustable fittings. Float diameters from 16 to 52 mm and tube diameters between 8 and 16 mm enable precise adaptation to the respective application. Our float switches are based on a flexible modular system: using a comprehensive range of standardized components, we manufacture individual configurations – quickly and efficiently. If the desired connection is not part of the standard range, we also realize fully customized versions – including special threads, colored nuts, or different installation lengths.
Electrically, our float switches support a maximum switching capacity of 10 W at voltages up to 50 V/DC or 25 V/AC – optionally also available in 230 V/AC versions. Connection types such as cables, plug connections, or terminal boxes can also be freely selected or implemented according to customer specifications.
Materials, temperature, and pressure ranges: Stainless steel float switches & more
Depending on the medium, the choice of materials includes PVC, PP, PVDF, stainless steel, or Buna. For connection cables, PVC, PUR, silicone, Teflon, or FEP can be used depending on the environment. The sensors are designed for temperatures from –20°C up to 200°C, depending on the float material. They operate reliably with media densities starting from 0.7 g/cm³ and are optionally available with EX certification and food-grade surface treatment. The protection class reaches up to IP68.
